What’s Up? I’m Ralph

A native St. Louisan and technology enthusiast with more than 20 years of software development experience. The vast majority of my career has been spent assisting companies achieve their software goals through contracting and consultancy. As founder of Aycot Consulting, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of products across many different industries and technology stacks. Today, I’m a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Zillow working in Platform and Infrastructure Engineering.

Previously, I was a Lead Software Engineer at Twitter where I worked in Engineering Effectiveness. EE is responsible for enabling Engineers to produce high-quality software needed to support 100s of millions of users. This group impacts Twitter Engineers globally and plays a significant role in continuous improvement, integration, delivery, and support of software created at Twitter.

Before Twitter, I worked as a Principal Engineer at Lumen Technologies. There, I was part of the technical leadership team where I focused on development and design for their Cloud and Network offerings. I worked with a team of highly talented individuals who collectively run Lumen Cloud, a public cloud spanning 17+ data centers across the U.S., Canada, Germany, Singapore, Great Britain, and Australia.

In addition to working on backends and tooling, I also have a background in Product Development. At Lumen, I was the Lead Engineer for building one of their core Cloud products, Simple Backup. This product was built from scratch, sold to thousands of customers, and backed up billions of files. Simple Backup is deployed to Virtual Machines in Lumen and AWS data centers around the world.

As a Consultant, one of my bigger projects was building the entire e-commerce platform for Panasonic North America. This was a B2C e-commerce product allowing consumers to purchase large and small electronics directly from the manufacturer. The platform included a Content Management System, shopping cart, order fulfillment, inventory management, product search, product migration, and building the ability to launch sales and promotions by Panasonic marketing teams.

Whether it’s building products or internal services, I’m up for the challenge. Honestly, I just like solving technical problems and learning new things. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to listen actively, and I am committed to creating simple and maintainable solutions that exceed customer’s expectations.
